Mugabe lives in fear -Makoni
MASVINGO – The leader of the Mavambo Kusile Dawn Dr Simba Makoni said President Robert Mugabe is now living in perpetual fear as many people in his Zanu PF party are tired of Mugabe’s rule.
Speaking at a press club meeting in Masvingo organised by Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) over the weekend Makoni said he was fully aware that more than half of the people in Zanu PF were tired with Mugabe.
“I am aware that Mugabe is now living fear because he knows that no one still respects him. There are more people who need change in Zanu PF than those outside the party,” said Makoni.
Makoni said he had to dump Zanu PF after discovering that people were no longer being promoted on merit. He said only those who shower Mugabe with praises are the only ones who can be given ministerial or other influential positions.
“Only those who sing and shower Mugabe with praises are given influential positions in government,” added Makoni.
Makoni said his party was closely working with other ‘opposition’ parties in forming a grand coalition for change. He said the coalition will not participate in the elections unless the reforms are put in place.
“We are working towards coming up with a movement for change,” he added.
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) legislator for Masvingo Tongai Matutu said he was prepared to step down to pave way for a member seconded to his constituency from the coalition.
“We are doing whatever it takes to bring change to Zimbabwe,” said Matutu. However, Matutu castigated Zanu PF for refusing to bring the much wanted reforms.
Zanu PF aspiring candidate for Masvingo Urban constituency Isaac Muzenda said he was confident that his party is going to win in the harmonised elections.
